Common dishwasher problems and how to fix them

Let's face it nothing lasts forever. Dishwashers are just like everything else. However, if you are having problems all is not lost. We have a few simple maintenance checks that can resolve many of the common issues and bring your dishwasher back to life.

  1. My dishes aren't getting clean.
This can be caused by a number of things, including a dirty filter or spray arm, food particles build-up on the dishwasher walls, or even hard water. There are a few simple steps you can take to try and fix this problem:First, make sure that your dishwasher's filters are clean. A clogged filter can prevent water and detergent from properly circulating, leading to dirty dishes.Next, check the spray arm to see if it is clogged with food particles or hard water deposits. If so, clean it off with a vinegar solution or a toothbrush. If you have hard water, you may need to use a special dishwasher detergent that is designed to deal with hard water mineral deposits. If you're still having trouble getting your dishes clean, it's time to call in a professional!

  2. My dishes are not drying.
We have a separate blog on this subject thats worth a read. However, one of the easiest fixes is use rinse aid and don't stick plastic items against other plastic. If it's not heating at all it may be service agent time.

  3. The dishwasher smells bad
Check all the filters and clean any grime and food residue. Also check the spray arms and the gasket around the door cleaning if required. Still a problem? Then let's sanitise the drum. A simple trick is to place a small bowl of vinegar in the top basket and run a hot sanitise cycle on your empty dishwasher.

  4. I have a water leak
This could be a worn door gasket or a hose leaking or has been disconnected. If not these it's time to call a service agent.

  5. Dishwasher will not start
Could be an electrical problem. Try unplugging, waiting a few seconds, and replugging to see if the machine resets. It may sound silly but check your house fuse to make sure you have power. Also, make sure the door is latching correctly. If the door doesn't close properly it will not start.

  6. The machine will not drain or fill.
Maybe time to call a professional. Still, if not  draining you could check to make sure your hose is not blocked or kinked and that the kitchen sinks drain is not clogged with debris.

Hopefully, these few simple tricks, you can fix some of the most common dishwasher problems.
