No steam is coming out of the steam wand or the steam wand has reduced pressure. What can I do to fix it?
Make sure the red plug under the water reservoir has been removed and the reservoir is sitting flush against the machine.
No water in the water reservoir. Fill reservoir with water. Run hot water through the steam wand to ensure water flows.
Steam wand tip may be blocked. To unblock the steam wand, insert the ‘Steam’ cleaning pin up the steam wand tip. The cleaning pin is located in the accessories storage area under the drip tray. Run hot water through the steam wand. If the steam wand remains blocked, unscrew the steam wand tip and soak overnight in the milk jug with warm water and add one Sunbeam Cleaning Tablet. In the morning, rinse the jug and steam wand tip under running water to remove all traces of the cleaning tablet. Use the cleaning pin to clean the steam tip. Screw the steam wand tip back into the steam wand arm. Run Hot Water through the steam wand for 40 secs.
HOT TIP: To keep your steam wand clean, make sure to wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth and purge the steam wand with steam immediately after milk texturing. This will remove any excess milk residue and ensure the steam wand is clean for the next cup of coffee.
Coffee does not pour. What can I do?
Check the water reservoir has water. Fill reservoir with water. Run water through the machine without a filter basket to ensure it’s fully primed.
Group head may be blocked and requires descaling. To run a descaling cycle, refer to pages 30 – 31 in the Instruction Booklet.
The coffee grounds are too fine or tamped down too hard.
Use a slightly courser grind or tamp a little softer.
Coffee comes out too fast or too slow. What can I do?
Extraction time or pour time is a good indicator of the quality of espresso.
A well extracted coffee should take around 20 - 30 seconds with a steady flow rate. The colour should be a deep caramel with a golden crema that tastes rich, sweet and vibrant.
Under extraction - If your extraction time is too slow, the coffee will be under extracted and the colour will be a pale brown with a light brown crema. The coffee will taste sour, acidic and watery. If you’re using a grinder, you can adjust this by trying a finer grind setting, adding more grinds to your filter basket or tamping a little harder.
Over extraction - If your extraction takes too long and pours over 35 seconds, the coffee will be over extracted and the colour will be a very dark brown with a dark brown crema. This will taste bitter and dry. If you’re using a grinder, you can adjust this by making the grind coarser, using less coffee or tamping a little softer.

The grinder has stopped working. How can I fix this?
No coffee beans in the bean hopper. Fill the bean hopper with freshly roasted coffee beans.
Hopper gates are closed or not fully open. (Ensure the white grinder light is on to show grinder-ready state). Turn the bean hopper in a clockwise direction. At grind setting 30, the hopper gates are fully open. See Removable Bean Hopper section in page 8 of the Instruction Booklet.
The grind chamber or outlet is blocked. Grinder needs cleaning. Refer to Instruction Booklet, Care & Cleaning, pages 28-29.
The grinder is messy and sometimes sprays a lot of coffee grinds. What should I do?
What is the correct way to use grind settings?
For freshly roasted beans, we recommend using a medium grind setting. Start on grind setting 20 as a guide. As the coffee beans start to lose its freshness, turn the bean hopper clockwise in small increments to a finer grind setting to keep an optimum espresso extraction.
