What is the difference between a ducted and a ductless rangehood?

A ducted rangehood vents air to the outside of your home through ductwork, effectively removing smoke, heat, and odors. In contrast, a ductless (or recirculating) range hood filters the air through charcoal filters and recirculates it back into the kitchen. Ducted systems are generally more efficient but require proper ductwork installation.

How high should a rangehood be mounted above the cooktop?

The recommended installation height for a rangehood is typically between 500 to 750mm above the cooking surface. For electric cooktops, 600 to 750mm is advisable, while gas ranges may require 675 to 750mm to ensure optimal ventilation and safety.

Is rangehood extraction power important?

Yes, Rangehood extraction power is one of the most critical factors to consider when choosing a rangehood. The extraction power determines how effectively the rangehood can remove cooking fumes, grease, odors, and steam from your kitchen.

Extraction power is measured in cubic meters per hour (m³/h). To calculate the required power for your kitchen:

- Multiply the kitchen's length × width × height to get its volume.
- Multiply the volume by 10 (to achieve 10 air changes per hour).
- Example: A 4m x 3m x 2.5m kitchen = 30m³ x 10 = 300m³/h minimum extraction power .
